As we approach the great feast of Easter, it is our Christian custom to gather in community to honor the passion of Christ as we pass from Lent into Easter in the days called Holy Week.
Please join us at First Christian Church this Holy Thursday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m. for a service of Tenebrae, or Shadows, led by Rev. Donna. Having begun as a service for monastic communities, Tenebrae offers Christians an opportunity to reflect on the Passion. It will consist in a series of meditative readings from the Gospels’ account of the last days of Jesus, with a candle being extinguished following each reading. The Tenebrae service will follow Communion and the stripping of the table.
Fr. Ron Catherson also invites the members and friends of First Christian to join the congregation of St. John’s Catholic Church of Antioch in the southeast chapel for a service on Good Friday, March 30, at 5:30 p.m.
Finally, St. John’s will celebrate the traditional Easter Vigil on Saturday, March 31, at sunset, 7:30 p.m. First Christian Church will follow with an Easter morning liturgy on the morrow at the usual 10:15 a.m.
Peace to you and victory in Christ.
