Mark and Karen Kelly came into membership on Sunday, August 26. We are delighted to have them join us. The following is a brief bio of Mark and Karen who currently live in Hatch, NM. Perhaps you share some similar interests. Mark and Karen learned about First Christian Church through our website. They stayed because they found us to be friendly and welcoming to them as well as to the LGBTQ community, and that we are a progressive faith community, as well as active in social justice issues.
The bios are written in their own words.
Mark: Born in Phoenix, AZ. Raised fundamentalist. Growing to adulthood decided that fundamentalism was restrictive to my spiritual journey. Lived unchurched for decades – working in sales then health insurance quality control, then USPS from 45-66 until retirement. I am continually more progressive as I grow older.
Love to read – especially science fiction fantasy, mystery. I guess reading lots of classics in pursuit of a B.A. in English wore me out on great literature. I like to sing, write a little, play golf, walk, ride bicycles, and hope to start shooting baskets (with a basketball) when the weather cools down.
Karen: We moved to Hatch to take care of my Father. I have family in Hatch. I worked for Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics and retired after 17 years, this past March. I have two grown daughters and 5 grandchildren, all of whom live in the Austin, TX area. I am an avid reader, a member of the Arroyo Writers Group in Las Cruces. I enjoy Yoga, crochet, scrap booking, cross stitch. I have a dog, Angus, a rescue, who keeps me active and laughing.
My spiritual journey has had quite a few twists and turns. I was raised in the Church of Christ, was a member of Calvary Chapel for 3 years, a practicing Catholic for 20 years and a Lay Dominican for 6 years, attended an Episcopal church in Utah for a year until we left Utah.
Karen and Mark have jumped in and signed up for some activities and are eager to meet friends and members of First Christian Church. Their contact information is in the current directory. Welcome, Mark and Karen.
